Leadership Legacy and Character

Every month, the management trainees in our organization meets and discusses different topics. This morning was a very inspiring discussion. We were talking about ‘what makes a great leader’. We talked about different characteristics but the thing that our Chairman stresses on is that a leader must have CHARACTER.

A LEADER MUST HAVE CHARACTER!

A person with character must stand up for what he believes in and must live by the values and principles that he believes in. He is a person who can determine what is the ‘right thing’ to do and keep to it even if push comes to shove. I admire these people with character and I think these are people whom we respect and look up to without question.

Another thing that made me think is creating a vision for oneself to set and give you direction. Every year, my husband and I make it a point to create a vision for ourselves. My vision for this year to help young entrepreneurs to reach their goals. I am doing everything I can right now to achieve this goal.

This year, I am launching or rather have launched Manila Workshops. Manila Workshops offers attendees a chance to attend insightful and useful seminars to develop their skills and add knowledge in their field of expertise. Manila Workshops also offers speakers a chance to share their knowledge on a given topic that they are Xperts in.

I actually thought about studying ‘life coaching’ and methodologies behind this. I would like to be able to help people in the future and talk to them about their career choices, family and relationship concerns, etc. Right now though, I have a full time job and I actually love it. My work as a product development officer allows me to get insights on different fields and industries. It allows me to gather knowledge on how we can help them create solutions to problems (although mostly related to info and funds flows). It works for me since it is still in line with my goal of giving consultation and mentoring in the future.

I guess I find fulfillment in helping others. I know that my leadership legacy will come by helping young entrepreneurs achieve their goals. I know that if they get to have successful businesses, then, I have succeeded. Have you ever thought of your personal vision?

A vision changes every so often. When I was young and straight out from college, I used to have a goal of earning Php 1000000. That was my vision. But when I reached 25, it was more of creating my own business. Last year, at the age of 30, I changed my vision to helping young entrepreneurs. I think this is what I am passionate about now. I think this will be what I will be focusing on for the next years.

How about you? What’s your personal vision?
